Hi Reader!
I don't believe in diets.
This isn't because I don't think there are times when we need to change how we eat (personally, changing how we ate changed our lives) or because there aren't good diets out there.
The problem is that “diet” (at least the way most people use the word) often implies something temporary, when what truly creates lasting health is sustainable change.
When we first committed to changing our eating habits to help heal my husband's gut, we weren’t expecting overnight results, and we definitely weren’t looking for a short-term fix. We had done the research and believed humans were designed to eat a certain way, so we committed to eating as close to that as possible, whether or not his health improved.
It took almost a year, but his health changed dramatically, not through a temporary diet, but through permanent lifestyle change.
For us, it’s never been about strict rules (counting every gram or never touching sweets again). It’s about nourishing our bodies with real food God created and building sustainable habits rooted in the way people have eaten for generations.
That’s what I hope to help you do here - not follow another “diet,” but create a way of eating that feels nourishing, sustainable, and life-giving, while working with any food allergies you may have.
Because sometimes the hardest part of eating differently is simply knowing what to make, here are a few recipes we've been loving lately:
I'd love to hear from you! What’s one food habit that has changed your health for the better?
This week in our home...
I think we’ve officially reached the point where repainting is in our future! Lately I’ve let the toddlers color a little too freely, which has resulted in quite a bit of “wall artwork,” but the final straw was a bottle of water kefir exploding all over our kitchen wall and ceiling. Honestly, that’s just what happens in a well-lived-in home, and we probably won't get around to painting for a while.
That said, if anyone has a foolproof tip for getting crayon off walls, I’d love to hear it!
From my kitchen to yours,
Violet
