The recipes I’m making instead of Costco pizza

Slow cooker chicken curry in a bowl with rice.

Hi Reader!

Just being honest, lately I slipped into a habit I didn’t love.

It started late pregnancy when I was tired and busy. We’d go to Costco, fill the cart with healthy food… and end with pizza for lunch. And honestly, at the time, I needed that help, and I have no regrets.

But over the past few months, it became routine.

I told myself that convenience food is worth it if it reduces stress, and sometimes that’s true. But the real goal is finding ways to eat well that also make life easier and help us feel better.

Yesterday was Costco day, and I decided to change things up. Before we left, I put chicken in the crockpot for an easy lunch and grabbed a few date balls for the ride home.

And it made a difference. Our trip was quicker, everyone was happier, I avoided the junk food crash, and the kids actually took good naps (rare for grocery days).

It was a good reminder: healthy habits serve us best, and convenience foods should be the exception, not the routine. (And yes, I'll still occasionally grab pizza on especially hectic days.)

There can be a learning curve when shifting habits, but in the end, they should reduce stress, not add to it. My goal is to help you find simple ways to eat and live healthier that actually work in your real life.

Here are a few of my go-to recipes for busy days:

This week in our home...

As the weather warms up, we’ve been making an effort to get outside more as a family (which, with three kids three and under, isn’t always easy). Last weekend we found a local park with a lake that’s perfect for picnics and short walks, and the kids have been loving our new evening routine of watering the garden together.
