How I simplified grocery trips

A meal made with simple, real ingredients: deconstructed stuffed pepper skillet.

Hi Reader!

Between stocking up on our favorites, probably buying 10 boxes of something on sale, and of course, samples, Costco trips are a family event around here.

(Seriously, how do they manage to get even my husband excited about groceries??)

When we first started eating healthier, grocery runs didn’t feel so simple. There was a lot of label reading, debating how important organic actually was, and, honestly, wondering what we were going to make for dinner even with a full cart of food.

But over time, my mindset shifted.

Instead of focusing so much on ingredients to avoid, I started focusing on real food, and everything got so much simpler.

Instead of reading a list of ingredients on granola, I'll grab a bag of organic sprouted oats and take a few minutes to make my own.

Fruit snacks? A bag of fresh or frozen fruit is so much better!

Organic is out of stock? Non-organic produce is better than none.

And that constant “what’s for dinner?” question? It’s gotten a whole lot easier too.

When the focus becomes real food over a specific restrictive diet (not talking about allergies or sensitivities), you suddenly have so many simple, flexible options to work with.

Here's a few of my personal favorites:

These days, my cart is full of simple, real foods, most of which don't even need an ingredient label, and everything is so much simpler.

I'd love to hear from you! What's your biggest grocery shopping challenge?

This week in our home...

Watering our newly planted garden has become part of my morning routine, but my 3-year-old has taken it upon herself to “water” her little brother. She told me she "thought he was a garden". Thankfully, he loves playing in water.
